The new Eyewear Collection reflects the Lacoste lifestyle proposition, encompassing elegance, refinement and comfort as well as a dedication to quality and innovation. Mirroring key attributes of the Lacoste brand, the collection features styles with a contemporary sport-elegant feel.

Lacoste was founded and named after Jean René Lacoste. Lacoste was born in France on July 2nd 1904 is known as an athlete and an innovator! He was a legendary tennis player who along with his teammates " The Musketeers" won the Davis Cup in 1927. France made history by breaking the stranglehold on the Davis Cup from Britain, USA and Australia.

The Crocodile logo used by Lacoste was also associated with tennis. René Lacoste was nicknamed "The Crocodile" by the U.S. press. According to the Lacoste company history, in 1927, René Lacoste made a bet with the Captain of the French Davis Cup team that if he won all the teams key matches he would be rewarded with a Crocodile suitcase. I think we can all guess by now who won.

Robert George, who was a friend of René Lacoste, is credited with the original Lacoste logo and embroidered it on the blazer Lacoste wore on the courts.

René Lacoste revolutionized tennis sportswear and fashion overall in one fell swoop. He redesigned the traditional long sleeve starched shirts and replaced them with a short sleeved ribbed collar shirt which is now a standard.

Along with André Gillier, who was the owner of France's largest knitwear company during that time, Lacoste set up a company to manufacture the now ubiquitous Lacoste shirt.

Lacoste in 1933 unveiled their shirts using a new type of fabric known as "Jersey Petit Pique," and are also being credited as the first company to have a logo outside of a tag. This became all the rage and as they say the rest is history. This forever changed the world of sports merchandising as well as fashion forever!
